Every January floral designers are flying all over the country to workshops, conferences, and bridal shows. It’s one of the slower months so it’s fun to get out and meet other designers and see friends from prior years. It’s also a good time to learn some new techniques and share ideas for marketing and better business practices. This past weekend I had time for a one-day workshop with Holly Heider Chapple. It was held at Florabundance headquarters in Carpenteria, California.
I’m a member of a group started by Holly called The Chapel Designers that functions as a network of floral and event designers who share support, ideas, resources and stories. Floral design can be a lonely experience and floral designers tend to be really generous and interesting people so the group works on many levels. Sunday’s workshop was a day of camaraderie, tons of business info, a satisfying amount of design time, and a hell of a lot of laughter. It’s sort of like the florist’s version of a day at the spa. After many years of designing weddings, Holly has an arsenal of information to share in the workshop. The designers come from all over the world so the discussion is diverse and always enlightening. Here are a few things I made.
The bridal bouquet for a glamazon bride.
A nice alternative to a fireplace garland.
The ubiquitous arm shot.
